When it comes to the fighter that is the face of Team Alpha Male, look no further than The California Kid, Urijah Faber. Faber is one of the most respected mixed martial artists from the lighter weight classes and can be credited with helping to increase the popularity of World Extreme Cagefighting and the smaller fighters. He was the face of that promotion and has had numerous big wins throughout his career in WEC and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but has also suffered through some vicious defeats.
What are his most notable wins and his worst defeats?
- WEC 34: vs. Jens Pulver for WEC Featherweight Title
In what turned out to be the last successful title defense of his WEC career, Faber had the biggest fight of his life against one of the biggest names in the sport, Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver. The fight earned both competitors Fight of the Night honors and showed everyone that Faber was a legitimate fighter.
- UFC 139: vs. Brian Bowles
With a 2-1 record in the bantamweight division, Faber was matched with the former WEC bantamweight title holder and earned an impressive second round submission win with the Guillotine Choke, setting up his chance to compete for the UFC interim bantamweight title.
- WEC 36: vs. Mike Brown for WEC Featherweight Title
Coming off his victory against Pulver, Faber was riding high, but was rocked by Brown in the first round and dropped the fight via TKO. It was a fight that most people thought Faber would win easily, but Brown had a game plan and followed it to win the world title.
- WEC 48: vs. Jose Aldo for WEC Featherweight Title
After Aldo beat Brown for the title, it allowed Faber to get another shot at the title. This fight went 25 minutes, but at no point in the fight did Faber look like he had an answer for the Brazilian. Much like all his other fighters in the WEC and UFC, Aldo controlled the action.
