The only man to ever wear the featherweight title in the Ultimate Fighting Championship is Jose Aldo. Aldo is considered by many to be one of the top three pound for pound fighters in the world. Since entering the spotlight of American mixed martial arts, Aldo has never been defeated and has taken part in many memorable fights. What are some of his best?
- WEC 41: vs. Cub Swanson
Aldo has taken part in many exciting title fights in his career, but his most talked about performance was at WEC 41 when he needed just eight seconds to knockout Swanson. As soon as the fight began, Aldo came forward and landed a perfectly timed flying knee. The win earned him a title shot at the World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight title.
- WEC 44: vs. Mike Brown for WEC Featherweight Championship
After his amazing KO win against Swanson, Aldo took on the man who dethroned Urijah Faber from the top of the featherweight division. In the second round of this fight, Aldo claimed the TKO victory after connecting with countless punches before the referee stepped in.
- UFC 156: vs. Frankie Edgar for the UFC Featherweight Championship
After Edgar dropped two straight title fights in the lightweight division, he dropped to featherweight and got an immediate title shot. The fight went the full 25 minutes and earned them Fight of the Night honors. Aldo controlled most of the fight and defended against Edgar’s strong point of takedowns for most of the night.
- UFC 129: vs. Mark Hominick for UFC Featherweight Championship
In his first defense of the UFC title, Aldo took on Hominick. In a performance that can be called one of the closest anyone has come to beating Aldo since coming to the States, Hominick kept it close, but in the end, it was Aldo retaining the title.
