Jon Jones is one of the best fighters in the sport and at the age of 25, has plenty of time to become the greatest of all time.

When Quinton Jackson took the title away from Chuck Liddell at UFC 71, the era of having one man dominate the division was done. Between Jackson’s title win and the time Jon Jones won the title, there were five different champions with just two successful title defenses. With Jones at the top of the division now, it is as though a better version of Liddell is now the face of the 205 pound weight class. Jones already has the reputation of being one of the best fighters in the world and will only continue to get better. What are some of his most notable wins and what is next?

When Jones entered the UFC, he fought through back-to-back unanimous decision victories before showing the MMA world that he had the talent to be the best when he submitted Jake O’Brien. It was his next fight that he garnered the most respect. He lost the only professional fight of his career via disqualification to Matt Hamill. It was a fight that he was dominating and a fight that many think the referee made the wrong call on.

Jones was deterred and rebounded by finishing his next two opponents in the first round against Brandon Vera and Vladimir Matyushenko. In a fight that propelled him towards a title shot, he submitted Ryan Bader in the second round.

In his title shot against Mauricio Rua, Jones got the TKO win in the third round and became the youngest UFC champion in the history of the sport. In his first three title defenses, Jones would go on to beat three former champions to retain his title: Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, and Vitor Belfort. In his last title defense, he beat Chael Sonnen convincingly with a first round TKO and now looks towards his next challengers.

As Jones looks to recover from his nasty foot injury sustained in the Sonnen fight, his next challenger will likely be determined with a Machida vs. Alexander Gustafsson fight. Whenever that time comes that Jones steps into the Octagon again, he will show the world he is one of the three best fighters in the world.
