20130127012201_john_dodsonWhen John Dodson reached the house on “The Ultimate Fighter,” the chances of him winning wasn’t high. The 5’3″ tall fighter was one of the smallest competitors in the house, but that didn’t stop him from becoming the winner of the bantamweight division tournament. Dodson hasn’t had as much mainstream fights as others in the division, but has taken part in countless big fights with many of them resulting in a win.

Notable Wins

  • The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale: vs. T.J. Dillashaw in finals of TUF 14 Bantamweight Competition

After making their way through the competition, it was left to just Dillashaw and Dodson in the bantamweight part of TUF 14. Dillashaw was a more established fighter and one that many thought would get the win, but Dodson was determined. Nearly two minutes into the first round of their fight, Dodson shocked Dillashaw and took the TKO victory.

  • Nemesis Fighting: vs. John Moraga

In his last fight before entering the TUF competition, Dodson took on Moraga, a current top contender in the UFC flyweight division. The fight was contested in the Dominican Republic and saw Dodson get the victory via unanimous decision.

  • UFC on FX: vs. Jussier Formiga

In this fight, Dodson earned the chance to compete for the UFC flyweight title after gaining the TKO victory at 4:35 of the second round. It was a title eliminator bout in the division and one that saw Dodson shine.

Tough Defeat

  • UFC on Fox: vs. Demetrius Johnson for UFC Flyweight Championship

After winning the bantamweight finals on TUF, Dodson never competed in that division. He instead dropped down to flyweight and won two straight fights in the division to earn a title shot at Johnson. In what was the Fight of the Night, Johnson defeated Dodson via unanimous decision in an extremely fast-paced battle.
