Ever since he entered World Extreme Cagefighting in 2010, Chad “Money” Mendes has become one of the most established fighters for the lighter weight classes in the world. He was 4-0 in his WEC career before being moved to the Ultimate Fighting Championship and has had great success in that promotion as well. What are some of the best wins of his career and who can stake claim to the only blemish on his record?
- WEC 50: vs. Cub Swanson
In his third bout under the WEC banner, Mendes took on Swanson. It was a fight that saw him display all his mixed martial arts skills and a fight that saw him win via unanimous decision. After this win, many claimed that Mendes was on his way to a title.
- UFC 126: vs. Michihiro Omigawa
After his contract was transferred to the UFC, Mendes made his promotional debut against Omigawa. The Japanese fighter isn’t known for his great record in MMA, but he is known for being a tough fighter. For the third straight Mendes fight, this battle went 15 minutes with Mendes earning the unanimous decision win.
- UFC on Fox: vs. Darren Elkins
For most of his career, Mendes has been known for grinding out decision wins. In his previous two fights, he had earned his first TKO and KO wins in the UFC or WEC and continued that trend against Elkins. The fight lasted just 68 seconds before the referee stepped in and awarded the TKO to Mendes.
- UFC 142: vs. Jose Aldo for UFC Featherweight Title
After going 6-0 in WEC and UFC, Mendes had finally done enough to warrant a title shot at Aldo. Unfortunately for Mendes, the fight never made it out of the first round. At 4:59, Aldo landed a beautifully timed knee to knockout Mendes.
